Abstract This article was prepared by Jan Blomberg, Peter Schoenmakers, Udo Brinkman and Jan Beens.
Because of the similarities between GC and distillation, oil chemists were quick to embrace chromatography. This chapter describes the early years of GC in petrochemical analysis and the introduction of hyphenated systems. It includes some historical references.
