Lee N. Polite (Ph.D) is President and Founder of Axion Analytical Laboratories, Inc, and Axion Training Institute. Axion is the premier chromatography training organization in the US. In his position, Lee is responsible for all HPLC and GC method development, troubleshooting, consulting, and training. Axion Labs was founded in 1995, and specializes in all aspects of chromatography research including environmental tobacco smoke, detection of explosive vapors (bomb detection), carbohydrates, organic acids, basic compounds, high-speed HPLC, ion chromatography, and high-resolution gas chromatography. Lee Polite has taught chromatography courses for more than 22 years to a variety of professionals throughout the world. Lee is presently professor in charge of the American Chemical Society's "Fundamentals of HPLC Course”, taught several time each year at the national ACS meetings. He is also the sole supplier of the popular hands-on HPLC and GC courses to the ACS.
Dr. Guillarme holds a PhD degree in analytical chemistry from the University of Lyon, France. Since 2004, he is senior lecturer in the laboratory of pharmaceutical analytical chemistry of the University of Geneva in Switzerland. Dr. Guillarme is co-author of more than 110 scientific papers related to pharmaceutical analysis. His expertise includes liquid chromatography, UHPLC, HILIC, LC-MS, supercritical fluid chromatography and analytical characterization of therapeutic proteins and mAbs. He is an editorial board member of several journals including LC-GC North America, Journal of separation science, current chromatography, American pharmaceutical review… Dr. Guillarme has also an extensive experience providing theoretical and practical training courses.
Henk Claessens (Ph.D) is associated professor in analytical chemistry at the Avans University of Professional Education, Academy of Life Sciences the Netherlands. He was head of the laboratory of Liquid Chromatography in the Department of Instrumental Analysis of the University of Technology, Eindhoven, the Netherlands, guest teacher in analytical chemistry at the Charles University in Prague and at the Technical University in the Czech Republic. He is (co)author of about 130 scientific papers and is active in the participation and organisation of national and international courses on separation sciences. In Chromedia he is also Topic Owner of reversed phase liquid chromatography (RPLC).
Nick Snow (Ph.D) is professor in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at Seton Hall University in South Orange, New Jersey, USA. He has been a analytical scientist for nearly twenty years and has published research on many aspects of separation science. Currently he is most interested in rapid separation techniques for pharmaceuticals and other difficult samples.
Nico Vonk (MSc) is a professional course manager for Avans+, a Dutch post-bachelor laboratory education firm for professionals. He studied at the University of Technology in Eindhoven (The Netherlands) at the department of Instrumental Analysis with Carel Cramers. He started his career at Chrompack Int., where he was responsible for the development and production of HPLC columns. Also he developed several courses for GC and HPLC, which he organized and presented in many countries in Europe. In March 2001 he joined Nova Knowledge (now Avans+) in Breda (The Netherlands), where he organises a complete program of analytical science courses in Breda and in-company around the country.
Paola Dugo (Ph.D) is Associate Professor of Food Chemistry at the University of Messina, Italy, and specializes in the chemistry of food and fragrances. She is also the author of approximately 130 scientific papers and book chapters, and has been a lecturer in both national and international congresses and symposiums. Paula's interests include the composition of essential oils from citrus fruits and aromatic plants, components with possible biological activity in natural matrices, determination of the aromatic fraction of food and beverages and the study of triglycerides in fats and oils. The researches are carried out using both conventional and innovative analytical scientific techniques (in particular multidimensional comprehensive chromatography). She is also Topic Owner of the Topic Circle on Food.
Chris Palmer (Ph.D) is Professor and Chair of Chemistry and Biochemistry at the University of Montana, Missoula, MT. He is secretary of the Federation of Analytical Chemistry and Spectroscopy Societies and was Honorary Research Associate at the University of Tasmania, Hobart, Australia, assistent professor of Chemistry in the New Mexico Institute for Mining and Technology and visiting lecturer in Louvain, Belgium. He was a post doc at Virginia Tech, the Unilever Research Lab, and the Himeji Institute of Technology. His educational interests include course and curriculum development for students. He is Topic Owner for Chromedia of the spectroscopy sections, which are currently under development.
Mary Kate Donais (Ph.D.) is a professor in the Department of Chemistry at Saint Anselm College in Manchester, New Hampshire, USA. Prior to academics, she was a researcher at the National Institute of Standards and Technology and a Senior Application Chemist for ICP-MS at VG Elemental. Her early career focus was in chromatography and speciation measurements. Her current research involves applications of portable spectroscopic techniques for in situ measurements. Much of this work is conducted at archaeological excavations in Italy. Mary Kate is also the Topic Owner of the Educational Format plan. She is a firm believer in incorporating technology, online resources, and new pedagogies into the classroom to enhance students’ learning and preparedness for future careers. The Chromedia team plans to investigate how best educators can utilize its online materials in a flexible and customizable manner in an effort to best serve students.
Like most Canadians Christopher Harrison grew up right on the southern border of the country, so it isn’t without some irony that he is now living and teaching in San Diego, on the United States southern border. The change in climate is very welcome and provides ample opportunity for bicycling, as well as an abundant pool of volunteer athletes for his research program at San Diego State University, where his group is working on the development of new anti-doping tests using the tools of analytical chemistry. Like Mary Kate, I am involved in the Chromedia Team that is preparing online materials in a flexible and customizable manner in an effort to best serve students.
Frank van Geel is initiator of Chromedia and one of the founders. He studied analytical chemistry with Leo de Galan in Delft, the Netherlands and did a post-doc in spectroscopy with Jim Winefordner at the University of Florida in the US. Then became a science teacher, and publisher in chemistry and physics related subjects. He developed many print publications in chemistry and other sciences. He strongly supports the mission: "Building on line communities is the road to take. To strengthen the quality of analytical chemistry we need a community platform for sharing know-how. If we don't take that road we will end up with masses of unstructured and unvalidated information on one end and unaffordable publications on the other. That is why we now have Chromedia."
TOPIC OWNERS
Topic Owners 'own' a Topic Circle and are responsable for their specific subject. They write, invite authors, pick up suggestions from the community members and guard the quality of the chapters.
