SFC basics
Eric Lesellier, ICOA, UMR 6005, FRANCEAbstract SFC is a environment friendly separation technique allowing to reach high separation performance or to strongly reduce analysis time. It can be applied in environmental, agroalimentary, pharmaceutical, biomedical fields and in most of the domains of the organic chemistry. It can be an alternative for chiral liquid chromatography, for normal-phase and reversed-phase LC.
The fundamentals of packed Supercritical Fluid Chromatography are presented in this chapter: what are the properties of supercritical fluids; in what domains and what compounds are analyzed by SFC; what apparatus is required to perform SFC; what kind of columns can be used; what kind of detector can be coupled with supercritical fluids, and all along the paper, what are the advantages or drawback of SFC compared to the differents LC methods.
